Boston's Journey: From Reactive Walks to Relaxed Walks

Labrador Retriever

The Challenge

Boston, a Labrador Retriever, became anxious and reactive on walks after two frightening encounters with other dogs. He would bark, pull, and become overwhelmed whenever another dog appeared.

My Assessment

Rather than treating the barking alone, I looked at why the behaviour was happening. By understanding Boston's emotional state, daily routine, and previous experiences, I identified fear and anxiety as the driving factors behind his behaviour.

The Plan

  • Comprehensive behaviour assessment
  • Individual behaviour modification programme
  • Positive reinforcement techniques
  • Confidence-building exercises
  • Owner coaching and practical walking strategies

The Outcome

After several weeks of structured sessions, Boston became noticeably calmer on walks. His barking and pulling reduced significantly, he recovered much more quickly after seeing other dogs, and he was eventually able to enjoy walks alongside his companion dog with far less stress.

Every dog is different, but with patience, understanding, and the right behaviour plan, lasting change is possible.
